Unbeaten WBO#10 Hiroki Okada (14-0, 10 KOs), 141, retained his Japanese 140-pound belt as he had a tough time coping with Valentine Hosokawa (20-6-3, 9 KOs), 139.5, but kept outjabbing and outscoring the game challenger to win a unanimous nod (98-92 twice, 99-91) in ten gory rounds on Tuesday in Tokyo, Japan. Okada made a good start, utilizing faster jabs to the onrushing opponent. Hosokawa, making his third attempt to win the belt, turned loose to pin the champ to the ropes with busy but less accurate combinations to the face and midsection. Okada sustained a gash over the left eyebrow in round four, and it became worsened as the contest progressed. Valentine, who also had a cut caused by the champfs punches, accelerated his attack and kept stalking the fast footworker in the sixth and seventh, but Hiroki retaliated with more effective combos down the stretch.
